Chemically treated plastic replacing fine aggregate in structural concrete

Plastic wastes (PW) create chronic environmental problems mainly because it is not biodegradable. The utilization of PW as a fractional substitution fine aggregate in concrete production sustainable application. However, the smooth surface plastic weakens cement-plastic bond and consequently lessens mechanical properties concrete. This research improves by increasing hydrophilicity coarseness polyethylene terephthalate (PET) through chemical treatment with 5wt% polystyrene (P.S.) PKHH-phenoxy resin. Twenty eight mixtures different w/c ratio; 0.4, 0.45, 0.5, 0.6 percentage sand substitution; 5%, 20%, 50% are cast. Tests conducted to determine behavior fresh hardened terms workability, water absorption, density, compressive strength, flexural splitting tensile durability. Results show that proposed rises bond. compressive, tensile, strength were improved 45%, 35%, 6% respectively compared corresponding untreated recycled highest achieved for mixes 5% plastic.
